S. Range trio blanks Mooney; Fitch wins first Federal contest

NORTH LIMA

Emily Seman singled and scored the game’s only run as the South Range High softball team defeated Mooney, 1-0.

In the fourth inning, Seman advanced to second base on an error, took third on a fielder’s choice and scored on a wild pitch.

Darrian Yanek (5-0) picked up the pitching win in relief. Yanek, starter Madison Yanek and Carly DeRose combined to toss a two-hitter. DeRose and Gab Naples had the Raiders’ (25-1) other hits.

For the Cardinals, Cadi Sheffler tossed a three-hitter. Vickie Farris and Christina Hrehor had the Mooney hits.

Canfield 6, Lakeview 0

CANFIELD

Sarah Vrabel went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs for Canfield (15-11). Gina Mancini and Abby Baker doubled.

For Lakeview (10-12), Lexi George and Raelynn Burns doubled.

BASEBALL

Fitch 3, Lake 2

UNIONTOWN

Chris Miller’s two hits included a double and drove in a run as the Falcons won their first Federal League game.

Logan Kane also had two hits for the Falcons (5-15, 1-9) while Tony Koch and Josh Foster doubled. For the Blue Streaks (11-7, 5-5), Jeff Bennett hit a two-run homer and Trent Smith doubled.

Canfield 13, Niles 0

CANFIELD

Senior Nick Reinthaler had a three-run homer and senior Ron Sullivan had seven strikeouts during a five-inning, four-hitter for Canfield (16-7, 6-1 All-American Conference Red Tier).

Senior Kyle Vaclav had two doubles and two RBIs while junior Brock McGivern had two hits and three RBIs. Also for the Cards, senior Justin Vrabel had two hits and an RBI while sophomore Ben Angelo had two singles and an RBI.

Evan Bollinger doubled for Niles (14-13, 3-5). In an earlier meeting with the Red Dragons, Canfield won, 9-2.

Crestview 6, Leetonia 2

LEETONIA

Tom Marnejon (5-3) went the distance, pitching a five-hitter with six strikeouts and one walk to lead Crestview (14-11).

Adam Coppock singled, doubled and scored twice for the Rebels, while Marnejon doubled twice, scored twice and drove in three runs.

THURSDAY

Western Reserve 4, United 3

BERLIN CENTER

John Rosati’s RBI double drove in John Gora with the game-winning run with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Gora also had a double in the game in which Jordan White’s two innings of relief helped in the win for Western Reserve (16-8).

For United, Jensen Sneltzer had two hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Bubba Creer had two hits, an RBI and two stolen bases.
