Qualifying: The Hartford native will be back on the track for tonight’s Southern 500 in Darlington, S.C. He qualified in 28th position on Friday, with a lap speed of 177.166 mph.

Season to date: Blaney didn’t qualify for last weekend’s race in Richmond, Va., but remained in 40th place in the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings.

This weekend: NASCAR’s top series runs tonight for the second straight week. TV coverage (Fox) begins at 7 p.m. with the green flag scheduled to drop at 7:44 p.m.
