Woman charged with hitting cop at school bus crash
YOUNGSTOWN
A 44-year-old Indianola Avenue woman was charged with several offenses Friday morning after police said she drove up on the sidewalk, tried to drive into an accident scene involving a school bus and a car and bumped her car into a police officer.
Leslie M. Hood of 188 West Indianola Ave. faces charges of felonious assault, misconduct at an emergency and obstructing official business.
A Youngstown police officer directing traffic for the 9:50 a.m. accident at Indianola Avenue and Hillman Street first observed a car driving on the sidewalk on Indianola to get around fire trucks blocking the intersection.
The police officer stood in the way of the car, a Pontiac Sunfire, to prevent it from driving into the emergency personnel and children. The officer ordered Hood to turn around, but Hood asked why she should have to turn around, saying she lives in the community and “has a right to know what is going on.”
Hood then drove twice into the officer.
