Poland Union Elementary first-grade students took a trip to the Olive Garden — but not just to eat the food.

The trip included a lesson on where food comes from, other than the grocery store or restaurant. During their visit, the students learned about the basic needs of people, like water and food and witnessed the ways people produce, consume and exchange services in the community.

The students toured the kitchen and saw where food is kept and how it is prepared. After the learning was over, the students dined on spaghetti, salad and bread sticks for lunch.
