The Friends of Poland Library threw a birthday bash Saturday to honor 75 years of service to the community.

The event included cake, coffee and punch and the community was invited.

Since the library’s origination in 1935, it has resided in four locations. The first was in a room in the Old Town Hall, the current Western Reserve Fire District administration building. It then found a resting place at the New Poland Town Hall building, which was formally owned by Judge James Kennedy. The library relocated a third time in 1965 to a one-story brick building.

Poland’s Elizabeth Ellis, who was a librarian in the one-story library, thinks the new building is beautiful and relaxing.

“It was very much needed because the old one was too small,” she said. “The new library is outstanding.”

The current building was completed in 2001 and features a cafe, used bookstore and a 200-seat meeting room.
