Dr. Cynthia Anderson, president of Youngstown State University, is keynote speaker for the annual meeting of the Community Corp., the parent of United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.

The meeting is Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lake Club, 1140 Paulin Road. The cost is $20 per person.

Career workshop

BOARDMAN

Area residents interested in a career in health care are invited to attend a free Health Care Career Workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. next Thursday at Boardman Park’s Lariccia Family Community Center, 375 Boardman-Poland Road.

Individuals must pre-register by calling Danita Logan at (330) 965-1787, ext. 7115.

Registration paperwork will be completed prior to the workshop at 8:30 a.m.

Mission program

YOUNGSTOWN

The Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley has added a day each week during May for individuals in need to receive free clothing, furniture, appliances and household goods at the Mission’s Distribution Center, 2246 Glenwood Ave.

The center is open to the public from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays for people whose last names begin with the letters A through L; and on Thursdays for people whose last names begin with the letters M-Z.

To receive assistance, individuals must present a valid identification card that coincides with their last name.

Safety courses

The National Safety Council, Northern Ohio Chapter, Ohio One Building, 25 E. Boardman St., Suite 343, is offering several courses open to the public. Pre-registration for all classes is required. Call (330) 747-8657.

The classes are:

CPR/AED (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillator Course), Adult/Child/Infant: Wednesday, 8 a.m. to noon, fee, $32.

Standard First Aid (three-year certificate): Wednesday, 1 to 4 p.m., fee, $32.

Bloodborne/Airborne Pathogens Course (one-year certificate): Wednesday, 4 to 6 p.m., fee, $32.

ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support Recertification: May 14, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., fee, $50.

Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (two-year certification): May 14, 1 to 4:30 p.m., fee, $50 for initial, $32 for refresher.

KidShape program

NEW CASTLE, PA.

Jameson Hospital is offering KidShape, a family-based program for children age 6-14 that promotes wellness and self-esteem.

The program, which runs Monday through June 28, targets children who are overweight or at risk of becoming overweight.
