Summer is the peak season for jam bands, including Youngstown’s Jones for Revival.

With that in mind, the group has come up with a full slate of shows, and many are outdoors.

The JFR season kicks off in earnest on Memorial Day weekend, when it again hosts Jonesfest, a three-day event at Nelson Ledges Quarry Park.

This year’s Jonesfest will feature 10 bands and longer sets for each. Jonesfest is a camping affair, and the park’s normal rates apply. But admission for the final day — Sunday — will be only $20 for a full day of music (noon to 11:15 p.m.).

“We had such a great response last year from people naturally building sand castles that we’re actually having a sand-castle contest with prizes such as tickets to future shows, band merchandise and more,” said Jim DeCapua of JFR.

Scheduled for Jonesfest are Moser Woods of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Super Massive, Cincinnati; Sultans Of Bing, Cleveland; The Young Stonians and Melva, Youngstown; Keeping Riley, New Jersey; an acoustic set from John Welton of Waterband; and Demos Papademos’s band Smokestack Horizon kicking the day off at noon on the side stage.

Ohio Burn Unit will be on the beach late at night, along with EOS belly-dance troupe and magician Jason Alan.

Jones For Revival has been playing Monday nights at The Lemon Grove in Youngstown but will kick off the summer season in earnest May 14-17.

It will be at Peaches in Yellow Springs May 14; Bill’s, Fort Wayne, Ind., May 15; The Bluebird, Bloomington, Ind., May 16, with Stephen Kellogg; and The Basement, Columbus, May 17, again with Kellogg.

Jones For Revival will mount a national tour in June and July, with stops in Cincinnati; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Chicago; Denver and Boulder, Colo.; Portland, Ore.; Santa Cruz and Monterey, Calif.; St. Louis, Clarksburg and Terra Alta, W.Va., Asheville, N.C.; and Columbia, S.C.

The band will return home for another show at Nelson Ledges on July 10 with Glass Harp.
