Homeless Pa. man sentenced for burning girlfriend
SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) — A northeastern Pennsylvania man who told police he has a “problem with lighting fires” has been sentenced to at least six years in prison for badly burning his girlfriend after an argument and setting two other fires.
Lackawanna County Judge Vito Geroulo sentenced 45-year-old Randy Barr to six to 18 years in prison Wednesday. Barr admitted dousing his girlfriend with lighter fluid and flicking a lit match at her during a January argument.
Police say Barr patted out those flames but the woman suffered serious burns when her clothes ignited again later.
Investigators say Barr, who is homeless, admitted setting fire to a pair of structures he was living in. They say he told them he burned a small dollhouse-style shed and a vacant duplex.
