County awards sewer contract

WARREN
Trumbull County commissioners have awarded a $1.3 million contract to Rudzik Excavating Inc. of Struthers to build a sewer project in the West Bolindale area of Howland Township this year.
Rudik’s bid of $1,343,693 was about $13,000 less than the next-lowest bidder, Dave Sugar Excavating Inc. of New Middletown.
Other unsuccessful bidders were J.C.M. Construction of New Springfield, Bontranger Excavating Inc. of Uniontown; Marucci & Gaffney Inc. of Youngstown; and Kirila Contractors Inc. of Brookfield.
Rex Fee, executive director of the Trumbull County Sanitary Engineering Department, said construction is expected to start by summertime.
County officials secured about $1.9 million in grants and a $337,158 zero-percent loan to pay for the project, plus $190,000 from Howland Township trustees.
The project cost is estimated to cost about $1.6 million, including engineering. The affected property owners will repay some portion of the loan as their share of the project’s construction costs.
The 11,460-linear-foot project will provide sewers to 69 homes and businesses on nine streets and in the 183-pad Brentwood mobile home park on DeForest Road. The homes now use septic systems.
The nine streets are DeForest Road and part or all of Bolindale, Broadway, Harvey, Elizabeth and Barder avenues, Athens and Williams drives and Candace Street.
