Hands on Volunteer Network of the Valley will launch its Center for Nonprofit Innovation and Leadership on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at its officers at 5500 Market St., Room 106.
The goal of the center is to assist nonprofit organizations to realize their greatest potential and strive for operational excellence.
The Center is funded with a $300,000 Together Ohio: Community Engagement Partnership Grant from the Governor’s Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives.
Instructor class
The American Red Cross of Trumbull and Mercer counties is offering an instructor class to learn to teach CPR for adult, child and infant, AED and first aid. The class is from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 15 and 29 at the Trumbull Red Cross at 661 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren. The cost is $175. To register, call (330) 392-2551.
Stress workshop

Catholic Charities Regional Agency’s Family Support Counselors is offering a workshop on “Stress Management and Self-Help Strategies” at 2:30 p.m. May 19 at the Boardman Library, 7680 Glenwood Ave.
The one-hour workshop is free and open to the public.

Walk for Obesity

The St. Elizabeth and St. Joseph Health Centers’ Surgical Weight Loss Center is offering the area’s first Walk From Obesity on May 15 at Boardman Park. The registration fee for adults is $25. Children 12 and under are free. To register, visit HMpartners.org and click on the Walk from Obesity link.
Funds raised will support the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Foundation and the Obesity Action Coalition.
Wing event
During May, Buffalo Wild Wings locations in Northeast Ohio are participating in the ‘Eat Wings Make a Difference’ fund to raise funds for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Buffalo Wild Wings will donate a penny per wing for every boneless or traditional wing sold.
May declaration

Gov. Ted Strickland has declared May as Older Americans Month in Ohio and May 18 as Senior Citizens Day. The Ohio Department of Aging supports and promotes celebrations for Older Americans Month and Senior Citizens Day in communities all over the state. The theme for 2010 is “Age Strong! Live Long!”
The Department of Aging encourages communities, senior centers, organizations and individuals to host public events to celebrate seniors in their communities.
Awareness walk
WARREN
The third annual Survivors of Suicide Awareness Walk, conducted in memory of loved ones who died by suicide, is from 2 to 4 p.m. May 15, beginning at the Gazebo in front of the Trumbull County Courthouse in downtown Warren. Families, friends and the public are invited to attend and urged to bring photos or signs to highlight the loss of their loved ones to suicide.

The department also is having an Older Americans Month photo contest to launch its new page on Facebook, the social networking Web site. To enter, Facebook members can visit the department’s page on Facebook (www.facebook.com/OhioDepartmentOfAging), become a fan and post their photo (limit one entry per individual) by Sunday. ODA staff will select the top three submissions, which will be featured on the department’s Older Americans Month Web page, as well as on the department’s page on Facebook.
