Boardman Township police stepping up patrols during prom weekend

BOARDMAN — Township police will supplement regular patrols with high-visibility patrols this prom weekend.

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, teens are more at risk during the prom season than during any other time of year. Statistics show that traffic deaths among teens are highest during prom season weekends.

As the department is encouraging students to celebrate and have fun without alcohol or drugs, officers will be targeting all violators for aggressive driving offenses, seat-belt usage and Operating a Vehicle while Impaired-related violations. That includes underage drinking.

Funding for the additional patrols is provided by the Mahoning County OVI Task Force and the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Ohio Traffic Safety Office.
