Portman starts campaign with Youngstown visit
Rob Portman, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, started his general election campaign today with a visit to a Youngstown manufacturing business.
Portman said the government needs to create an environment in which the private sector can grow by reducing taxes and unnecessary and restrictive regulations. He also said his campaign would focus on the state’s economy.
“It’s about Ohio’s future, our children’s future and about creating the jobs they’ll need to raise a family here in Ohio,” he said.
Portman visited Trumbull MARS Inc. in Youngstown. The company manufactures custom engineers rubber products for the aerospace, hydraulic, pneumatic and electronics industries.
Portman will face Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher, who won Tuesday’s Democratic primary, in the November general election.
Portman is a former congressman and served as President George W. Bush’s U.S. trade representative and director of the Office of Management and Budget.
