Letson gets nod in 64th District

WARREN
Incumbent 64th District state Rep. Tom Letson of Warren received a decent challenge from fellow Warrenite Vincent Flask, a Warren councilman, but Letson was victorious.
Now Letson faces an old rival in the general election, independent Randy Law of Warren, who had the position before Letson.
His Republican opponent will be Albert Haberstroh Jr. of Southington.
The 64th District takes in Warren, Cortland, the village of West Farmington and the townships of Howland, Champion, Warren, Braceville, Southington, Farmington, Mesopotamia, Mecca, Johnston, Bristol, Vernon and parts of Fowler and Bazetta.
“I am incredibly pleased that the Democratic voters endorsed me for another term,” Letson said Tuesday night. “It is very humbling when you receive that kind of support in a contested race.”
Letson, an attorney, defeated Law for the position four years ago. Letson is chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.
In a race of four candidates for the Democratic nomination to replace Sandra Stabile Harwood of Niles as 65th House district representative, Atty. Sean O’Brien of Brookfield appeared to win the party’s nod at press time.
In second place was J.D. Williams of Liberty, followed by Niles councilman Edward Stredney and Michael V. Boccia of Niles.
O’Brien will square off in November against Republican Geno Capone of Hubbard, who had no opponent in the primary.
The 65th District represents the cities of Girard, Hubbard, Niles and Newton Falls; the townships of Brookfield, Hartford, Hubbard, Liberty, Newton, Vienna, Weathersfield and parts of Bazetta and Fowler; and the villages of Lordstown, McDonald and Orangeville.
O’Brien is an assistant Trumbull County prosecutor.
Werner Lange of Newton Falls will be on the fall ballot in that race as an independent.
