Six Fitch football players have made known the colleges they will attend in the fall, coach Phil Annarella reported.
Continuing their athletic careers are DeAndre Richardson, Sam Mariano, Terry Terrigno, Duante Anderson, Ken Burns and Dre’Lon Simmons.
Four will remain in-state, while the others are headed to play in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Richardson received a scholarship from Ohio Dominion University, while Mariano and Terrigno received scholarships from Lake Erie College.
Anderson will attend Bethany College, Burns will attend Thiel and Simmons will attend John Carroll.
The 6-1, 180 Richardson was a receiver/defensive back who had 43 receptions for 483 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, he made 33 tackles and had three interceptions and five pass break-ups. He was first-team All Federal League and special mention All-Ohio.
Mariano was also a receiver and defensive back who had 23 catches in 2009 for 300 yards and six touchdowns. On the other side of scrimmage, the 6-2, 173 Mariano made 42 tackles and had three fumble recoveries and two interceptions. He was second-team All-Federal Leageue and second-team All-NEO.
The 6-2, 187 Terrigno, a receiver/linebacker, was a two-year letterman and two-way starter who had 23 receptions in 2009 for 289 yards and four TDs. He was honorable mention All-Federal and honorable mention All-NEO. A separated shoulder limited him to seven games.
Anderson, a linebacker/running back, was a team captain and three year letterman. The 5-9, 202 Anderson recorded 59 tackles including 30 solos.
The 5-8, 168 Burns was a two-year starter as placekicker and set a school record of 45 points-after touchdown in a season.
Simmons, a team captain, was a one-year letterman and starter as noseguard and running back. The 5-8, 182 Simmons was especially dangerous on special teams, such as the kickoff unit.
“He’s an excitable young man who wants to run down and hit somebody and he loves doing it,” Annarella said of Simmons’ play early last season.
