Police: Man caught with stolen items

Carmen Renna, 20, of Federal Street was arraigned in Niles Municipal Court on Monday on a charge of receiving stolen property, a felony, after Niles police arrested him early Monday with stolen items in his pockets.

An officer responded to a 911 call on Clark Street for a suspicious person and found Renna walking down the street at about 2:20 a.m. with his pockets “stuffed full.” The area has been hit recently by thefts from vehicles, police said.

Inside his pockets, Renna had two global-positioning systems, two cell-phone chargers, a container of change, a pack of cigarettes with cash inside and a personalized business-card holder, police said.

The officer contacted the owner of the business-card holder, who came to the scene and said it and one of the GPS systems was from his vehicle.

Renna admitted that all of the items in his pockets were stolen but said he had traded someone a small bag of marijuana for them, police said.

Judge Thomas Townley ordered Renna held in the Trumbull County Jail in lieu of $7,500 bond. Because the charge is a felony, Renna was not required to enter a plea, a court clerk said. If convicted, Renna faces up to a year in prison. He returns to court May 12.
