Pittsburgh police still tracing marathon ’threat’
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Police are still trying to determine the intent — if there was any — by whoever put a microwave oven containing a can of ravioli near the route of Sunday’s Pittsburgh Marathon.
Police have yet to determine who put the device there, which briefly delayed and detoured the race because police believed the can may have been an explosive device. The microwave and its contents were detonated using a bomb-detonating robot.
Police say they were cautious because the item in the microwave appeared to be a pipe bomb when the device was X-rayed. Police took extra precautions when the device was found curbside during the race the night after a failed car bomb plot was uncovered in Times Square in New York.
Police still don’t know if the microwave was left outside to cause a panic.
