‘Elixir of Love’ at Pierce

Staff report

SHARPSVILLE, PA.

Donizetti’s comic opera “The Elixir of Love,” directed by Francisco Casanova, will be presented at 8 p.m. May 13 and 15 at Pierce Opera House, 100 Mercer Ave.

Tickets are available at the Sharpsville Borough Building and online at sharpsvillehistorical.com.

“Elixir” is a lighthearted tale of a man who falls in love with a beautiful young girl. He buys a love potion, joins the army and finds out the object of his affection also loves him. To complicate matters, he has inherited a lot of money and receives attention from many women.

The opera is sung in Italian with English subtitles. Casanova has toured extensively throughout the world. He is a disciple of renowned tenor Maestro Pier Miranda Ferraro and performed the inaugural opera concert for the Ferraro Fan Club at Pierce Opera House in November.

He recently accomplished a rare feat: singing the very difficult role of Eleazar in “La Juive” twice in 24 hours in Tel Aviv.

Tristan Cano, a graduate of Hermitage High School and Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, will return from New York City, where he studies and performs, to conduct his first opera.

Rina W. Elisha is the director. Her theater career spans more than four decades in New York.
