FBI makes changes after Ohio slaying
CINCINNATI (AP) — The FBI has made changes in procedures since the fatal 2007 shooting of a drug suspect.
Agents were installing a transmitter on a vehicle to track the movements of Gerardo Mulato. But FBI records show Mulato spotted them on his closed-circuit TV and charged out.
Records obtained by The Cincinnati Enquirer through Freedom of Information requests state that an agent shot Mulato after he pointed his pistol. Afterward, a Forest Park police officer pointed his gun at the undercover agents, who yelled in time that they were FBI.
FBI and prosecutors concluded the shooting was justified.
The Cincinnati FBI office now requires that agents alert local police to covert operations and says agents have clothes with covers that tear away to show the FBI logo.
