Radio station WYSU 88.5 FM raised $106,907 in its 40th anniversary Spring Pledge Drive. The one-week drive drew pledges from 1,141 listeners and featured many giveaways, incentives and challenges, including a trip for two to Ireland won by listener Kim Jenkins of Hubbard.

Child-rape sentence
WARREN
Brian W. McCurdy, 42, of Pratt Street, Niles, has been sentenced to 10 years to life in prison after pleading guilty Friday to raping a 7-year-old girl in Niles in November 2009. Judge Andrew Logan of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court approved the plea agreement, which resulted in a second rape count’s being dismissed.
Flags for veterans

A cultural and spiritual diversity program is set for 9:30 a.m. May 18 at Park Vista Gathering Room, 1216 Fifth Ave. The Rev. Oran Telford, staff chaplain at Northside Medical Center and president and chief executive officer of Youngstown Organization of Protestant Men, will explain how religion and culture form beliefs about diet, healing practices and issues surrounding life and death.
