‘Celebrate Poland’ Poetry Contest: For the Celebrate Poland event, June 25-26, the Library wants you to express your praise for Poland with poetry. In the contest, open to teens in grades 7 through 12, winners will receive prizes and have their poems printed on bookmarks for distribution at the Poland Library. All entries will be displayed at the Poland branch during the weekend celebration. Entries must be received by May 28 at Poland Library. Longtime Poland residents will select the winners. Celebrate Art: Enjoy selected artwork by Youngstown schools students. Art will be on display at two city branches during open hours. Teens will display their art at East Library. Business/Investment Center Celebrates National Small Business Week: In our local economy, the small business has an increasingly important role. In recognition of National Small Business Week May 23-25, the library is offering four programs specifically aimed at helping upcoming and established area businesses.
Federal Contracting Workshop 101: Join Robert McClain, chairman of the Youngstown chapter of SCORE. Social Media for Small Business: Presenter Tyler Clark will lead this program. Lunch and Learn: “The Rayen School 1866-2007: A Retrospective” with Harry Mays, a 1958 Rayen graduate, instrumental in preserving the building’s mural depicting 141 years of school history. Mays will discuss the school’s founder and benefactor, Judge William Rayen, as well as its teachers, culture of learning, sports stories, alumni, and historical trivia. Main, noon May 11.
