A memorial pipe and drum corps led a procession of robed Ohio judges honoring the state’s late chief justice.
Saturday’s memorial tribute to Thomas Moyer at Ohio State University also included speeches from the other Ohio Supreme Court justices, reflecting on the man who had led the court since 1987. The 70-year-old Moyer died unexpectedly April 2.
Ohio’s high court says the ceremony recognized Moyer’s achievements and life it says was dedicated to civility, public service and the rule of law.
The replacement named by Gov. Ted Strickland, Democrat Eric Brown, will take over as chief justice of the all-Republican court Monday. Brown faces a November election for the seat against Justice Maureen O’Connor.
