Free training sessions for nonprofits: HOVN would like to announce free capacity building trainings geared toward community and faith-based organizations to take place throughout Northeast Ohio from spring 2010 through summer 2011. Visit the Governor’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives Web site at www.governor.ohio.gov for HOVN’s spring training announcement. The information is located on the upcoming events page under May events. Registration for both trainings is open until May 12.

So You Want to Start (and/or Expand) a Non-Profit?: May 18 in Akron.

Community Organizing Fundamentals: May 22 in Cleveland.

Summer of Service Adult Team Leaders: We are seeking adult team leaders, older than 21, to work alongside a small group of youths on service projects at the Youngstown Playhouse, Mill Creek MetroParks, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Lien Forward Ohio, and Assumption Village. HOVN will provide training and supplies. If you are a youth leader, coach, teacher, retiree, or college student, this is a great summer opportunity for you. Relay for Life Needs: Relay for life events will be going on all over our community during May, and volunteers are needed to help with various tasks. If you would like to help, contact Francesca at (888) 227-6446, ext. 2214.

Special Olympics: The Special Olympics take place locally from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 22 at Girard High School Stadium. Interested volunteers can contact Kristen at HOVN at (330) 393-4254 or (330) 540-0102.

Youngstown Playhouse hospitality coordinator: This position involves planning and/or assisting with opening-night receptions and other events at the playhouse. Assistance with decorating the lobby and lounge areas for holidays and events also is a part of this volunteer position. Hours depend upon the specific event. Times would generally be weekend evenings for the event, afternoons for set up. Contact Mary Ruth Lynn at (330) 788-8739.

Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio: Adult volunteers are wanted to help share Girl Scout programs on self-esteem, fitness, financial literacy, poetry, art, and college preparation to girls in our local schools. Employment Services Resource volunteer: One or two volunteers are wanted to assist Burdman Group clients and Employment Services staff with job search activities. Activities may include typing r sum s, assisting clients with applications, and searching the Internet for job postings.
