YOUNGSTOWN

A domestic dispute ended in the arrest of a hammer-wielding city woman and one of her friends.

Shanique McGee, 21, of Buckeye Court, and Lashonda Shakoor, 20, of Dogwood Drive, are to be arraigned today in the courtroom of Judge Robert Douglas of Youngstown Municipal Court on charges of felonious assault. The women are in Mahoning County jail.

According to police, officers found the 22-year-old father of McGee’s child outside his North Side home bleeding from the head with other scratches above his eye just before 9 p.m. Monday. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment.

The man told police he arrived home with a friend and was cut off by his former girlfriend McGee, who parked near his home with Shakoor in the car. He said the women jumped out of the car, McGee carrying a hammer and Shakoor carrying a tire iron, and began to beat him about the head and back.

The man said he was able to grab the hammer from McGee and threw it away. The hammer struck and broke the rear window of the car McGee was driving. Reports say the child of McGee and the man was in the back seat of the car at the time.

McGee and Shakoor jumped back in the car with the shattered window and fled after the victim’s new girlfriend emerged from the house carrying a black BB gun and ordered them to leave.

Police collected McGee’s cell phone, the tire iron and a red baseball cap at the scene as evidence.

McGee and Shakoor were arrested at Shakoor’s South Side home about an hour later. Reports say McGee told officers the car window had been shattered the night before.
