Tuesday’s Prep softball games


Poland 2, Struthers 0

STRUTHERS

Winning pitcher Erin Gabriel tossed a one-hitter and struck out 16 batters for the Bulldogs (1-0). Emily Chandler’s bloop single in the fifth inning brought home both runs. Kalie Benson had two hits. Ashley Baron (1-1) scattered five hits for the Wildcats (1-1). Amber Affagno had the Struthers hit.

Canfield 1, Hubbard 0

CANFIELD

Freshman Abby Baker singled to score Alexa Schmidt in the bottom of the seventh inning. Winning pitcher Carlee Hart (1-0) scattered four hits, struck out 13 and walked none for the Cardinals (1-0). Keri Durina doubled for the Eagles (0-1). Breana Kelly (0-1) tossed a three-hitter and struck out six.

Howland 9, Salem 0

SALEM

The Tigers used dominant pitching and a powerful offense to guide them. Hayley Marchio threw a one-hitter for the Tigers, and struck out 10 batters. On the offensive side, Melanie Cope brought four runs in on one swing of the bat with her grand slam in the fourth inning. Erika Nites had two singles and three stolen bases for the Tigers, and Samantha Jaques had three base hits.

Lakeview 6, Beaver Local 1

CORTLAND

The first swing of the season by Lakeview was a home run off the bat of freshman Alyssa Nicholas. The Bulldogs added two more runs in the bottom of the first inning when sophomore Jamie Sentner singled with two on for 3-0 lead. Winning pitcher Alexis Neumeister struck out 12 batters and walked one. The Bulldogs’ only senior, Raelynn Burns, was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Sentner finished 2-for-3 and sophomore Kim Lane was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the winners. For Beaver Local, Alyson Jones had a single and the lone RBI.

Ursuline 5, St. Thomas Aquinas 0

LOUISVILLE

Casey Lower (2-0) struck out 16 batters and walked one in tossing a one-hitter for the Irish (2-0). Sarah Ingalls’ three hits included a two-run homers and a double. Malikka Caige had two hits.

South Range 10, Mineral Ridge 0

MINERAL RIDGE

Winning pitcher Madison Yanek tossed a one-hitter and hit two triples for the Raiders (1-0, 1-0 ITCL Tier One). Kristin Robinson tripled and doubled to drive in two runs. Laura Biroschak’s three hits included a triple. Darrian Yanek had two doubles and Emily Seman’s two hits included a triple and drove in two runs.

Western Reserve 13, Sebring 1

BERLIN CENTER

Heather Monoski had four hits, including a triple and two doubles, to lead Western Reserve (1-0, 1-0 ITCL Tier Two). Maggie Stubbs added two hits, including a double, and Chelsea Bogdan singled twice. Ashley Grim had seven strikeouts. Karlie Meek hit a triple for Sebring (0-1, 0-1).

Louisville 7, West Branch 0

LOUISVILLE

Brittany Flanigan went 3-for-4 and Desi Givens added two hits for Louisville. Included in the hits by Flanigan and Givens were a home run apiece. Flanigan, also the winner, allowed just two hits and struck out seven. Brandi Snyder and Lizzie Mohr had the hits for West Branch.
