Suspects still sought in shooting of South Side teen

YOUNGSTOWN — Police continue their investigation of a shooting on the city’s South Side that sent one teenage boy to the hospital.

The 16-year-old Lowell Avenue boy was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center at 6 p.m. Sunday with a gunshot wound to the hand and thigh. He was last listed in stable condition.

The information on the shooting was made available to press and public today.

According to witness statements given to police, the boy and friends were standing in front of a house in the 200 block of Hilton Avenue when they heard a long bang. The 16-year-old realized he had been short immediately after hearing the bang, and a friend drove him to the hospital.

Police recovered live ammunition from the home’s driveway and from the wounded teen, who claims to have picked up the bullets after seeing them on the ground when he was shot.
