Pa. state trooper kills man after standoff

HOPEWELL, Pa. (AP) — State police say a trooper shot and killed a man in south-central Pennsylvania after he pointed a weapon at authorities during a standoff.

The Bedford County coroner pronounced 67-year-old Chester Guyton dead at the scene at the home in Hopewell after the shooting Tuesday.

After responding to a call about a “distraught male,” state police say they found Guyton threatening to harm himself and others inside his home before he began walking outside in the yard with a weapon.

They say troopers had been negotiating with Guyton for 90 minutes when he pointed the weapon.

District Attorney William Higgins said today there will be an investigation, though the shooting appears to be justified after a preliminary review of video from a police cruiser.
