March snow causes fatal crash in Pa.
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) — A surprise spring snowfall caused a string of crashes in northeastern Pennsylvania, including at least one fatal collision.
Luzerne County Deputy Coroner Bill Lisman says a woman in her 20s died after she lost control of her car on a snow-covered road Tuesday in Dorrance Township. A passenger in her vehicle was also hurt when it crossed into oncoming traffic.
Snow began falling across higher elevations in northeastern Pennsylvania in the afternoon. Snowfall totals of more than 4 inches were reported in some areas.
Officials say the a wintry mix of snow and sleet was responsible for more than 60 crashes in Lackawanna County and dozens more in Luzerne, Carbon and Schyulkill counties. Emergency dispatchers in Monroe County say the storm caused more than 20 accidents there.
