Raschilla leads McDonald past Lowellville

Anthony Raschilla struck out 10 batters and had two doubles on Monday to help the McDonald High baseball team defeat Lowellville, 7-4.

David John provided another double for McDonald.

West Branch 11, Chaney 0

BELOIT

The Warriors opened their season in a thunderous fashion, getting the bats involved early and often. West Branch scored four runs in the second inning and had 14 hits on the game.

The Warriors allowed only four hits on the pitching combination of Jeff Deckerd and Jake Mull.

Softball

STRUTHERS

Though the game was played in Struthers, Girard lost its home opener, 5-1. Weather forced a change of venue and the Wildcats used a little thunder of their own to en route to their first victory. Dana Mathews blasted a home run for the Wildcats while Chelsea Guerrieri had a double for the Indians.

Ursuline 5, Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary 2

YOUNGSTOWN

A home run by catcher Sarah Ingalls propelled Ursuline past their Fighting Irish counterparts of Akron. Two errors by SVSM hurt their cause. Kasey Foley also had a double for Ursuline.

West Branch 14, Beaver Local 0

BELOIT

Booming bats helped the Warriors put a football-like score on the Beavers and dam up their opening game. West Branch had nine hits off of Alysha Jones, while Emily Weber allowed only two hits.

LACROSSE

UNIONTOWN

The Cardinal Mooney boys lacrosse team has started its second season off with victories over Uniontown Lake and Mentor Lake Catholic. The Cardinals defeated both opponents 7 to 6 in overtime victories during a doubleheader at Lake stadium. The Cardinal Mooney girls lacrosse team in its first season also started with a victory, defeating Brunswick High School 5 to 4 at Brunswick High School.
