Break-ins probed

YOUNGSTOWN

City police are investigating break-ins at a business and a residence.

An alarm brought officers to Park N’ Shop at 1900 Glenwood Ave. just before 2 a.m. Monday. Someone had broken a lock on the front door to gain access to the building and made off with an estimated $500 worth of food and cigarettes.

Police said someone used a ladder to get through a second-floor bedroom window in a home in the 1100 block of Springdale Avenue between 7 and 11:30 p.m. Sunday. Once inside, the intruder forced open a door leading to the first floor.

Police said the resident was taking an inventory to determine if anything was stolen.

Senior-watch program

The Liberty Senior Watch Program will sponsor an open house from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the township administration building, 1315 Church Hill- Hubbard Road.

Participating agencies will be Girard Multi-Generational Center, Adult Protective Services, Trumbull County Office of Elderly Affairs, Area Agency on Aging District 11, Western Reserve Independent Living Center, Wellness One, SCOPE, Home Instead, Valley Counseling and Trumbull Mobile Meals.

The Liberty Fire Department will provide free blood-pressure checks.

Food vandalism

SALEM

Three people reported food vandalism in the city Saturday. A resident in the 600 block of Park Avenue found at 7:04 a.m. that someone had put mustard, chocolate sauce and an unidentified white substance on his vehicle that was topped with a tomato on the roof.

At 11:53 a.m., a person in the 1400 block of Maple Street told police that someone had put mustard on his vehicle.

At 12:37 a.m. Saturday, a person in the 1500 block of Southeast Boulevard also reported someone had put mustard on his vehicle, “with no indication why this was done.”

Felonious assault

NILES

An arrest warrant was issued for Scott Rosenberger, 26, of Deer Trail, Niles, on a charge of felonious assault.

Niles police said Rosenberger punched a 25-year-old Niles man in the face in the bar at McMen-amy’s, 325 Youngstown-Warren Road, about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

The victim suffered severe facial injuries and was taken by ambulance to Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

Police said the victim was going to be transferred to University Hospital in Cleveland for repair of facial bones, including his nose, police said.

Women of Color Expo

YOUNGSTOWN

The Women of Color Expo is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University. It is free.

The event features workshops such as “Parenting in a Hip Hop World,” “Coming of Age in 2010” and “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” as well as panel discussions, entertainment, crafts, vendors and more.

It is co-sponsored by JAMZ 101.9 and the YSU Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity.
