HELOISE: Amusing cell-phone stories abound
Dear Readers: Cell phones seem to be almost a part of our daily wardrobe! Heloise Central has collected some crazy cell-phone catastrophes:
One friend lost her phone in the toilet. It had fallen off her belt clip, and splash! When she reached in to grab it, the automatic flusher swept it away!
Another left his phone on the roof of his car when loading groceries. He forgot about the phone, hopped in the car, threw it in reverse, then a quick move forward and crunch! Flattened phone!
Now, how about a soda soaker? One of my assistants left her phone in the cell-phone holder in her car, only to have soda seep from a tilted cup into the holder, and it was found when she saw her phone bobbing around!
So, how about your amusing or sad cell-phone stories? Send us your story involving a cellular telephone. Here’s our contact info: Heloise, P.O. Box 795000, San Antonio, TX 78279; e-mail to Heloise@Heloise.com; or fax to 210-435-6473 (HELOISE).

Dear Heloise: Just a word of caution when reusing envelopes with stamped bar codes. Even though I had marked out the bar code completely, my letter went to the bar-code address, not the address my letter was addressed to. Thankfully, the recipient returned my letter. In the future, I won’t reuse bar-coded envelopes.

Good to know, Kate. We always recommended blacking out the bar code in the past, but it’s interesting that one got through.

Dear Heloise: My husband and I both changed jobs in 2008, and we were able to get on the group health insurance at our new jobs. I was required to complete an insurance application, which required providing 10 years of health history.
My hint is: Each year I keep all papers on doctor visits, prescriptions, lab work, etc. I keep them even if we don’t claim them on our taxes. I have our health history in a folder, and if you ever have to complete an insurance application, you won’t be saying, “Now, when did I go to Doctor So-and-So?” Ten years is a long time if you’re completing an application for insurance!

Dear Heloise: Each Wednesday, our newspaper has a food section. I saw a recipe but didn’t want to cut it out of the newspaper because my husband had not read it. I grabbed my cell phone and took a picture. It will stay with my phone until I decide to send it to my computer.

Dear Heloise: When I put an appointment on my calendar, I include the name and telephone number. If I have to cancel or contact the person, the number is right there.
