BOARDMAN

The Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross will host its 14th annual Red and White Ball from 6 p.m. to midnight May 22 at Antone’s Banquet Center, 8578 Market St. Since its inception, the black tie evening has become one of the most prestigious events in the Mahoning Valley.

The purpose of the ball is to raise funds, which will enable the Red Cross chapter to help people in the local community to prevent and prepare for disasters, and to provide relief for disaster victims.

In the last fiscal year, the chapter provided assistance to nearly 150 families following disasters, at a cost of almost $150,000. It also assisted about 200 families in need through the Armed Forces Emergency Services. During the 13 years since it was initiated, the Red and White Ball has raised more than $1 million to support these vital programs.

The ball has become the chapter’s major fundraiser. It raises money through corporate sponsorships, program advertisements, ticket sales, and a silent and a live auction.

The silent auctions invariably feature a vast array of items from around the world, donated by local businesses and individuals. Such gifts as trips and sporting event packages are also included.

Dinner at the event will be provided by Antone’s, and The Look will play music for dancing.

In preparation for the event, Greg Greenwood of Greenwood Chevrolet was named honorary chairman and honored at a kick-off luncheon March 11 at the Youngstown Club. Serving as co-chairman is Paul Johnson.
