The Youngstown YMCA Neptunes swim team had 13 swimmers qualify for the Great Lakes Zone YMCA Championship Swim Meet Mar. 19 through the 21 at Bowling Green University.
The team had 200 swimmers this year ranging from ages 8 and under to 18.
Area high school swimmers start swimming with the team in September until the high school season begins.
This is the largest team coach Sue Mellish has sent to a zone meet.
Her assistant coaches are Stacy Sowers, Kristen Kuntzman, Ashley Emerson, Laura Hammond and Jessie Font.
The Great Lakes Zone Meet participants include YMCA Clubs in Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Michigan. In order to qualify for the zone meet, swimmers had to previously achieve times that place them in the top 25 to 30 for their event among the participating YMCA clubs across all five states.
There will be a spring swim clinic at the downtown YMCA starting Mar. 30 through May 4. For information contact Mellish at 330-424-1128.
