There will be hundreds of items for sale with all proceeds to benefit the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County.

Fire at All Souls

Authorities are investigating a fire that occurred in a large maintenance building at All Souls Cemetery, 3823 Hoagland Blackstub Road, around 6 p.m. Friday. Crews from about seven departments, including the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna, responded.

Authorities said there was substantial damage to the building, but it is not clear if the building is a total loss.

Fire investigators from Trumbull County are looking into the cause of the blaze.

School program

Willow Creek Learning Center, 1322 W. Western Reserve Road, will have an informational meeting on its Advanced Kindergarten program for the 2010-11 school year at 7 p.m. Monday.

Reading, math, Spanish and other academic and arts curricula will be outlined. The presentation includes a tour of the facilities and a question/answer period.

Class size is limited to 16 students for this all-day program. Financial aid is available. Registration is open for prekindergarten through eighth grade. Advanced kindergarten registration discounted for meeting attendees.

Immunizations

NILES

The Niles City Health Department, 34 West State St., is offering children’s immunization clinics from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. April 7 and 21. No appointment is necessary, and no one will be refused because of inability to pay.

Parents must bring their child’s immunization records, and children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Children should be feeling well the day of the clinic, with no illness, fever or rash.

Green Idol Contest

As part of the Mahoning County Green Team’s celebration of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, students in grades one through 12 are invited to compete in the first Green Idol Contest on April 17 beginning at noon at Southern Park Mall in Boardman.

Contestants must sing songs with an earth-friendly theme. Prior registration is required; contact the Green Team at (330) 740-2060.

U.S. citizenship

YOUNGSTOWN

The English Center, in collaboration with the Youngstown school district’s adult-education program, is offering free U.S. citizenship preparation classes Tuesdays from April 13 to June 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The classes will be at Choffin Career and Technical Center, 200 E. Wood St., Room A101.

These classes are designed to help potential citizens prepare for the citizenship test. Classes cover American history and government and review the naturalization application.
