Canfield art students show off their talent


Canfield High School students showcased their art skills in the Scholastic Art Show from Jan. 16 to Feb. 5 at the McDonough Museum of Art in Youngstown.

The exhibition included work by students in grades seven through 12 from Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Ashtabula counties.

Students from Miss Bernard’s and Mr. Hoop’s art class, Elise Huzjak, Michelle Adams, Rachelle Fair, Nathalie McClune, Megan Pearce, Robin Rockney, Katie Fernstorm, Amelia Bellino, Izzy Simon, Nikki Mehle, Borgan Spaulding, Kathryn Mason, Jackie Cruze, Alex Jesko, Katie Meenachan, McKenna Goske and Anna Serraglio allowed their work to be judged at the event. Seven of the students received awards.

Mehle won one of two Gold Key Art Portfolio awards on a collection of her work. Jesko’s “Spor” artwork and Serraglio’s “Red Coat” won Gold Key and American Vision awards. The students were two of five awarded the American Vision awards.

Simon’s “Stranger” won a Gold Key and will go on to be judged at national level. Fernstroms’ “Pond Puppy”, Cruze’s “The Sun Comes and Mehle’s Birds won Silver Key awards.

Gold Key and American Vision winners were judged at the national level in New York in March. Jesko’s “Spor” received a Gold Medal.

The public can view the students’ work at the Old North Church in Canfield and at the School Art Show May 26.
