Butler advances to Final Four
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gordon Hayward scored 22 points to help tiny, fifth-seeded Butler of the Horizon League beat No. 2 Kansas State 63-56 in the West Regional final Saturday to advance to the Final Four.
Shelvin Mack had 16 for the Bulldogs (32-4), who won their 24th straight game. They head to the Final Four in downtown Indianapolis, only five miles from their campus, where parts of the underdog classic “Hoosiers” was filmed.
Denis Clemente had 18 tough points to lead Kansas State (29-8), which was trying for its first Final Four since 1964 but got stifled at almost every turn. The Wildcats tied it at 54, but got outscored 9-2 over the final 3:06.
