Ohio plane crash victim cremated by mistake

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio coroner says one of two plane crash victims was incorrectly cremated and the other man was buried in the first man’s place.

Montgomery County Coroner Dr. James Davis in Dayton says the problem was discovered after one family said it received the wrong personal effects.

The men were on board a small plane that crashed in rural Union County on March 5.

The local coroner says he mixed up the men’s wallets and misidentified the badly injured bodies at the scene. He sent them on to Montgomery County for positive identifications from dental records.

Davis says his office correctly identified the men but didn’t notice the findings conflicted with the initial IDs.

Authorities are working with the families to get the remains to the right places.
