Inmate kills self in jail

WARREN

A Warren man, who would have turned 26 today, committed suicide in his cell Wednesday afternoon at the Trumbull County Jail about two hours after being brought there on a probation violation.

Peter Brister Jr. of Adelaide Avenue was found hanging by a bed sheet at 1:38 p.m. Wednesday by jail personnel. He was taken to St. Joseph Health Center, where he was pronounced dead.

He was being held on the second floor of the jail, which is for inmates in general population, not on suicide watch.

Brister was booked into the jail a few minutes before noon Wednesday after deputies arrested him on a warrant issued out of common pleas court.

Brister pleaded guilty last July to three counts of forgery and was sentenced to five years’ probation. He had been in jail several times within the past three years.
