Injured by explosive

A teenager was hurt after he detonated an old explosive he found while cleaning his garage, said the North Beaver Township police chief. Ben Pagliaro, 19, of 135 Leeper Drive lost his left hand in the accident about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, said Chief Mark Pelto.

Pelto said Thursday he does not know what kind of explosive the teen found. Pelto said Pagliaro told paramedics he lit the device. The North Beaver Fire Department’s Quick Response Service was first at the accident scene, Pelto said.

Pagliaro was flown by helicopter to UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Pa. shooting

Authorities are investigating a Thursday evening shooting on North Cedar Street.

The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m., according to the Lawrence County Communications Center. No further information was available.

Burglary charge

Police caught a woman inside Christie’s Bakery on 12th Street during a burglary investigation. Lisa Roby, 37, of Tremble Avenue was charged with burglary and was to appear this morning in Campbell Municipal Court, police said.

She was arrested at 4:03 a.m. after the resident in the apartment upstairs heard glass breaking and a female voice in the bakery below, police said.
