Salem set for Easter festivities

The Salem Retail and Business Association will sponsor the 2010 Easter Open House from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Participating businesses will offer specials each day with Easter baskets filled with candy and coupons, and a chance to win a bicycle courtesy of Salem Wal-Mart will be featured at the following businesses: Knit Wit Knits, Kolby’s, Tennille’s, Salem Fun Factory, Sport Connection, Sterling House, Lion & Lamb, Corner Creations, The Ginger Jar and the UPS Store.
The Easter Bunny will greet children at the Salem Fun Factory, 520 E. Pershing St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The Salem Storybook Museum will provide a reading of “Peter Rabbit” at the Salem Fun Factory at noon.
The Big Reach Center of Hope, a ministry of Greenford Christian Church, will be distributing free bags of candy downtown from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday for children age 2 through 12 in the city park between MacMillan’s and Troll’s Jewelry. A drawing for two Easter baskets also will be conducted by the group. Other Easter basket drawings will be at Consumers National Bank and Home Savings and Loan.
The Salem Community Hospital is sponsoring an Easter egg coloring contest for city school students in kindergarten through fourth grade. Pictures are on display in stores.
Essex of Salem on Continental Drive and Sterling House on South Lincoln Avenue also will have Easter egg hunts and other activities.
