POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Hubbard and Liberty:

GIRARD

March 21

Theft: Two dirt bikes and a four-wheel vehicle were stolen from a garage in the 100 block of East Second Street, for a total loss of about $4,000.

March 22

Assault: Edward M. Desantis of Dearborn Avenue was charged after police responded to a situation in the 100 block and said they saw Desantis push and kick another man.

HUBBARD

March 18

Attempted fraud: A Grandview Avenue woman told police a male claiming to be her grandson called saying he had been in an accident and needed money.

Fraud: A West Liberty Street woman reported the theft of funds from her credit-union account.

Recovered property: A 1997 Cadillac El Dorado that was towed in Farrell, Pa., had been reported stolen from a Hubbard man.

March 21

Theft: A man discovered his wallet stolen from his home in the 700 block of Elmwood Drive.

Arrest: Authorities took Robert B. Thomson into custody at his residence, 516 Wendemere Drive, Hubbard, on a warrant.

LIBERTY

March 17

Theft: A 36-year-old Youngstown man promised but failed to return to Denny’s Restaurant, 4020 Belmont Ave., to pay an $18 food bill.

Theft: An official with Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, noticed a pattern of cash-drawer shortages and said a surveillance camera showed an employee on five occasions removing money that totaled $340.

March 18

Theft: Charges were pending against two Youngstown men, 25 and 26, after a receiver to an in-dash car stereo, a blade from a hacksaw and hand lotion were stolen from Walmart.

Arrest: Police stopped Christopher Rainey, 30, of 4083 Madison Road, Youngstown, as he rode a bicycle near Logan Way. Rainey was wanted on a parole violation related to a burglary charge.

Domestic violence: Warren D. Anderson, 48, of 2902 Northview Drive, Youngstown, was charged after his wife alleged he tackled her, causing the accuser to strike a TV, and punched her several times in the neck and chest.

Identity theft: An East Liberty Street woman discovered unauthorized withdrawals totaling $326 were made from her credit-union account.

March 19

Burglary: Took place at a Marla Lane home via the front door, where $154 was missing.

Arrest: Brian P. Neil, 29, of 333 N. Roanoke Ave., Youngstown, was arrested in the 1300 block of Church Hill Road on a probation-violation count.

March 20

Bad checks: A man bought two 14-karat gold pieces of jewelry from World of Gold Jewelers Inc., 4684 Belmont Ave., with two checks later returned on a closed account.

Drugs: Officers issued a summons to 26-year-old Kevin R. Williams, 1717 Florida Ave., Youngstown, after saying that during a traffic stop on state Route 193, eight small bags of suspected marijuana were found.

March 21

Breaking and entering: A surveillance camera caught someone smashing glass, then entering Ohio Puppy Inc., 3620 Belmont Ave., through a side door. A wireless router device was among the property taken.

Theft: David Plazio, 52, of 249 Curry Place, Youngstown, was charged with stealing a rotisserie chicken, a six-pack of beer and a DVD from Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave. Plazio was released on his own recognizance.

March 22

Burglary: Police took custody of 19-year-old Jesus M. Santiago, no information given, as he showed up for an appointment on Gypsy Lane.

Arrest: Authorities took custody of 26-year-old Kari R. Davis, 2591 Walnut St., Girard, who was wanted on a warrant.

Arrest: Police went to the Mahoning County jail and took custody of 22-year-old Malleri J. Viglio, 582 Wilbur Ave., Youngstown, who was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

Breaking and entering: Police were called to a residence in the 800 block of Pinecrest Avenue, from which $2,500 worth of copper plumbing was stolen.

Theft by deception: A charge was pending against a Walmart employee who, store officials said, intentionally failed to scan $571 worth of merchandise while tendering a transaction for a customer.

March 23

Theft/vandalism: Someone cut an electric cable at a Belmont Avenue building and removed an electric panel. The theft and damage came to about $1,700.

Stolen property: Jeffrey L. Jackson, 43, of 4 Trumbull Court, Youngstown, faced charges of receiving stolen property and having fictitious license plates when, police said, a vehicle registration check near Hadley Avenue revealed the plates had been stolen in Campbell.

Theft: A Youngstown boy, 15, was detained and released to the custody of a family member after a cable to an MP3 player and a related item had been stolen from Walmart.
