Is bigger really better?

Is bigger really better?

For years we have heard “Big- ger is better.” I think as independent minded citizens we should rethink this logic.

We have seen in industry that very often, bigger can be an anchor instead of a blessing. Bethlehem Steel, AIG insurance, Enron and General Motors are examples. They seem to be so cumbersome that they can’t adjust to market conditions and we perceive that they are to big to fail.

Another sign of size that we should be leery of is “comprehensive” and “omnibus.” Whenever politicians use these words you can bet that they will add a lot of things into the bill that have little or nothing to do with the basic subject matter. A recent example is the government take over of student loans that was put into the health bill.

Speaking of politicians, there is a two word phrase that I think we should outlaw and that is “career politician.” I don’t think any law maker will ever support term limits, so we should do it for them. The president has two, four year terms and I think we can limit senators to one six year term: Congressmen to 3 two year terms. We can start this year by removing an incumbent in November and replacing them with new people.

Sunday was a great day for pizza

We and our family had the

pleasure of attending the Valley Pizza Cook-off Sunday.

We were so impressed with how well organized it was, especially since it was the first of its kind. Congratulations to Sue Stricklin and her committee for an outstanding job.

The attendance was great and showed again how this area always seems to step up to support a worthwhile cause such a the Potential Development Program.

A great time was had by all and we are looking forward to next year’s cook-off.
