12-year prison term

WARREN

Jack M. Kaczmark, 43, of Newton Drive, Newton Falls, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for shooting a 13-year-old girl in the shoulder at Kaczmark’s home Jan. 23.

Kaczmark has pleaded guilty in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to two counts of felonious assault, being a felon in possession of a firearm and obstructing justice.

Newton Falls police said girls age 12 and 13 went to Kaczmark’s house about 2 p.m. Jan. 23. Kaczmark was showing them a .22-caliber handgun, grabbed the 13-year-old, pointed the gun at her and fired. The girl has recovered.

Trial continued

YOUNGSTOWN

The trial of Ivan Maldonado, 41, of Boardman, has been continued to April 12. His trial on the misdemeanor charge of menacing was scheduled to start with jury selection Wednesday.

The former president of Youngstown State University’s Association of Classified Employees union is accused of making a threatening telephone call to another YSU employee in March 2009.

Maldonado, a 20-year university employee, was union president at the time, and the call was made to another union member.

The ACE union has filed a grievance against the university seeking Maldonado’s reinstatement to his job. That issue is going to arbitration.

No action on villas

POLAND

The village planning commission took no action Tuesday on a proposal to develop 18 villas between East McKinley Way and Marion Drive.

Mayor Tim Sicafuse, a planning commission member, said the panel discussed the plans submitted by members of the Clayton family, but no decisions have been made.

A lawsuit filed by the developers is pending against the village, its council and planning commission regarding the same developers’ request last year to build four six-plex apartment buildings and six carriage houses, or garages, on the property.
