Union irked that Ohio Dem voted no on health-care bill

COLUMBUS (AP) — A union representing about 25,000 hospital, state and other workers in Ohio says it will no longer support the state’s only House Democrat to vote against the health-care bill.

The Service Employees International Union District 1199 says it’s disappointed that southeast Ohio Rep. Zack Space opposed health-care overhaul legislation that passed Sunday. The union says the measure will provide more people with access to affordable care.

Space said before the vote that he believed the bill would financially burden the working class and provide a windfall for insurance companies. His office did not have an immediate reaction to the union’s announcement today.

Space was among 34 Democrats who joined all Republicans in voting no. The bill passed 219-212.
