UHRICHSVILLE, Ohio

State and local police digging into the mystery of 51 clay artifacts stolen from a museum recovered 40 of the pieces along with some civic pride.

Police in Uhrichsville in eastern Ohio teamed with agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation to track down the items stolen in February. The thefts overwhelmed the city police department, with just eight officers and no detective.

Burglars twice hit the Uhrichsville Clay Museum and took the salt-glazed clay artifacts, dating from the city’s heyday as a thriving pottery center, from the late 1800s to the 1950s.
