Phantoms defeated in shootout, 3-2

Alex Krushelnyski scored in the shootout Saturday to give Sioux City a 3-2 win over the Youngstown Phantoms in the USHL.

Sioux City took a 1-0 lead into the second period but the Phantoms got the equalizer on Tom Serratore goal at 5:30.

Sioux City made it 2-1 at the 7:22 mark of the third period on a goal by Stephan Vinger but the Phantoms forged a 2-2 stalemate on Nick Czinder’s tally just eight seconds later.

The teams battled through a scoreless overtime before the shootout.

The first two Phantoms failed to score in the shootout but Tom Serratore and Adam Berkle found the back of the net to even things up again.

The final Phantom shooter, Taylor Holstrom, was turned away and Krushelnyski ended it with his success.

The Phantoms were 0-for-5 on powerplays.

Goalie Jordan Tibbett turned away 29 of the 31 shots he faced.
