World Down Syndrome Day focuses on progress

The Down Syndrome Association of the Valley (DSAV) will celebrate World Down Syndrome Day Saturday.

Mar. 21 is representative of Down syndrome in which individuals have three copies of the 21st chromosome.

Down syndrome organizations across the world celebrate the successes and accomplishment of those with Down syndrome throughout the weekend of Mar. 21.

This year, the DSAV will hold its celebration Saturday, a day early, at the DSAV Center for Success located at 945 Boardman-Canfield Rd., Suite 12, Boardman.

Two speakers are scheduled for the event which will begin with the reading of a World Down Syndrome Proclamation by Congressman Tim Ryan.

Canfield resident and DSAV member Sharon Bettura will share the encouraging story of her son, Joseph, and his 23-year journey of inclusion in school and the community.

Beturra will be followed by attorney Amanda Buzo of Hickman-Lowder in Cleveland.

The event is free, but seating is limited.

Register online at www.dsav.org or call 330-726-DSAV.

Light refreshments will be served.

The Down Syndrome Association of the Valley serves families and professionals in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania.
