Walsh University sets week on global issues

Next week, Walsh University will celebrate World Week to promote and raise awareness of important global issues such as health, education, environment, justice and peace.

Coordinated by the Office of International Student Services, World Week is an opportunity to explore the similarities and differences of various cultures on Walsh’s campus.

The week’s activities will include a showcase of international traditions, games, crafts, music and food.

Two events will highlight World Week — Oxfam Banquet for Darfur on Tuesday and the Guadalupe Festival on Thursday.

At the Oxfam Banquet, each guest will randomly draw a ticket assigning them to the high, middle or low-income groups and will then be served a corresponding meal.

The Guadalupe Festival celebrates Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas and of the Unborn. Honoring the Feast of the Annunciation, the festival will begin at 5 p.m. in the Cecchini Center at Walsh University, 2020 E. Maple St., North Canton. The event is free and open to the public.

On Thursday, students will make homemade rosaries for Youngstown prison inmates. Special guests include Monsignor Eduardo Ch °vez from Mexico City, the postulator for the canonization of Juan Diego, and international recording artist Dana Scallon. Monsignor Chavez wrote “Our Lady of Guadalupe: Mother of a Civilization of Love.”

The event will include food, pi ±atas, music, the rosary in English and Spanish and Spanish Mass with a procession of roses. and a presentation by Msgr. Ch °vez on the meaning and appearance of Our Lady of Guadalupe to St. Juan Diego.
