Boardman speakers talk the talk at state

Neighbors | Submitted.The boardman High School Speech Team competed in the 2010 State Speech Tournament held the week of Mar. 8 in Cleveland. .The state qualifiers are standing in front of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

Fourteen Boardman High students qualified for the State Speech Tournament Mar. 8 in Cleveland. The Spartans finished 16th out of 87 schools in the competition. Justin Wilkinson led the way with a second-place finish in United States Extemporaneous Speaking.

The Public Forum Debate team of Greg Ferenchak and Mario Leone finished ninth in the state and teammate Tim Welsh finished sixth in International Extemporaneous Speaking.

The Duo Interpretation team of Alicia Lawson and Kiyan Taghaboni reached the semifinal round.

Other Boardman state qualifiers included freshman MyKale White, sophomore Matt Albani, sophomore Caitlyn Andrews, sophomore Alicia Lawson, sophomore Kiyan Taghaboni, junior Kelsey Crossen, junior Nate Fabian, junior Michael Slavens, senior Evan Beil, senior Shelby Crump, senior Greg Ferenchak, senior Mario Leone, senior Tim Welsh and senior Justin Wilkinson.

The Public Forum Debate Team of juniors Nate Fabian and Michael Slavens qualified to attend the National Speech Finals in Kansas City in June.

Ferenchak was recognized as the National Forensic League - Northern Ohio District Student of the Year for his academic and forensic achievement as well as community service and character.
