AMS girls post district’s first-ever undefeated season

Neighbors | Submitted.Austintown Middle School girls basketball team member, Magan Sefcik was named the all-time leading scorer with 321 points. .The team won the All-American Conference Championship.

The Austintown Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team won the All-American Conference championship by defeating Struthers 49-36.

With the win, the team cemented a spot in the school record book as the only undefeated girls team in Austintown history at any level of basketball play with a 17-0 record.

Megan Sefcik led the way in the title game with 26 points. Sarah Melfe, Maura Bianco, A.J. Corradi, Gabby Butcher and Sefcik paced the defensive effort for head coach Jeff Wilson and assistant Mike Cook.

On the season, Sefcik scored a school record 321 points and made 79.1 percent (76-of-96) from the foul line, also a school record. The team finished with a points per game record of 41.1 points per contest.

The girls defeated Canfield 30-13 in the AAC tournament quarterfinals dropped Boardman Glenwood 34-11 in the semifinals. It was the third time this season the AMS girls defeated both teams.
