J.J. Cafaro to remain in jail over the weekend

AKRON — U.S. District Judge John R. Adams today denied a request by lawyers for J.J. Cafaro for an expedited detention hearing to have Cafaro released from jail today.

Cafaro was transferred from Summit County jail to the Corrections Corp. of America’s Northeast Ohio Correctional Center on Hubbard Road on Thursday afternoon.

Cafaro's detention hearing remains set at 11:30 a.m. Monday. Judge Adams detained Cafaro at his Wednesday arraignment, saying he had refused to provide the financial information necessary for his bond to be properly set.

Cafaro pleaded guilty Wednesday to making a false statement concerning a contribution to his daughter, Capri Cafaro’s, unsuccessful 2004 congressional campaign.

Capri Cafaro of Liberty, D-32nd, is a state senator and senate minority leader.
